'Pink Chair' charity event honors memory of S.I. girl

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- While Gianna Nicole LaBarbera may have died of leukemia at just four years old in 2007, her memory is being kept alive each day by her family and volunteers through a non-profit organization in her name.

On Sunday, a local business partnered with Gianna Nicole's Heart of Hope Foundation to help raise funds for other families whose children bravely battle cancer each day.
The unveiling of the Pink Chair took place at Metro Bistro Restaurant in New Dorp on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

For each customer who sits in the Pink Chair when they dine at Metro, a percentage of that dinner plate will be collected and presented to a Staten Island family each month.

"I'm honored to be part of what they've created and what Gianna's foundation is all about," said Stephen Valenti, general manager of Metro Bistro.
